What’s the best skin care secret that your esthetician may never tell you about? Washcloths. How simple and yet so effective at both cleansing and exfoliation. They aid in deep pore cleansing. Washcloths are a mild form of exfoliation you can use both morning and night. Even your best face cleanser can clog your pores and leave a residue if not thoroughly rinsed.
Splashing your face with water alone does not thoroughly rinse your skin. Instead follow this skin care secret: manipulate your cleanser on your face with your fingers for a minute or two, and then remove the cleanser with a warm, wet washcloth. You might have to rinse and repeat.
Still not sure yet? Do this test. Wash your face like you would normally do by splashing your face with water. At the point you would normally think your skin is clean and rinsed take a WHITE wet, warm washcloth and now wipe your skin thoroughly. Take a good look at the wash cloth. Yep, that is what you would ordinarily leave behind when you thought your skin was clean. Do that test once and you will never rinse by splashing your face with water alone again.
A Skin Care Secret from a Professional Esthetician
How often can you use the same washcloth? Usually a couple of times.
Start with a clean washcloth and when you are all finished rinsing the cleanser off your face, rinse the washcloth thoroughly and then wring out all excess water. Hang the rinsed washcloth over the towel rack, open. It should be dry by the next time you use it.
Never use a washcloth that has been used and is still wet from prior use. Bacteria don’t die until it has completely dried. You should not smell any mildew. And if you do, bleach the washcloth out in a wash.
After a couple of days put it in the washing machine cleaning with hot water and detergent. My favorite washcloths are microfiber made by Sinland. They should be soft and gentle, not rough like sand paper.
Oh yeah! One more thing. While a using a washcloth to clean is a mild form of exfoliation you can do at home, it should not be used in lieu of regular, professional exfoliation. That is the second best professional skin care secret!
